League Information

10/25/04

Hello All,

Well it didn’t take long for all the rumors to start so I will try to put some of them to rest right here and now…..

The APSL has not “folded”, “disbanded”, or “cancelled” the season. The coaches voted to postpone the start of Phase II for several reasons having to do with scheduling, tournaments and the start of high school soccer. Also this will give the league time to create a working committee to go through the problems and concerns brought up at last nights meeting and see which direction the league wants to go in when we start up after high school.

Also the rumor that you have to get into either the VYSL and/or PCJSL to qualify for state is not true. All the APSL teams have already qualified for state cup by virtue of their having already played the required three league games.

As to APSL teams’ “running out” to join the VYSL is another bit of bad information. There are some teams that are going to join the VYSL or PCJSL second season…just as they have for the previous four years. The teams involved are the younger teams that don’t have high school age players. For years it has been the leagues policy to allow them to play in the VYSL or PCJSL second season and then come back to finish Phase II.

As for the play dates of the 6th, 13th and 20th, as was discussed last night all the coaches are encouraged to contact the other teams in their divisions to schedule games. We still have the fields available as well as the referee’s. Anyone needing to schedule referees for a game should contact Roberto at the phone number on the Administrators page.

Thanks, Mariano

The MANDATORY Coaches Meeting will be held on Sunday Oct. 24th at 6:30 PM at the Sereno Office located at 10801 N. 32nd St. (32nd st. just north of Shea) at the rear of the building. This meeting is absolutely mandatory and refer to the previous posting about not showing up. There should be no excuse because of the 29 Girls teams in the league 25 of them are playing in the Sereno tournament and of the 27 boys teams 18 are in the tournament. This date and time was chosen due to several of the leagues teams having games on sat that start at either 6 or 8 and all the games on Sun should end by 6:00 Pm giving all of you enough time to get to the meeting.

Hello All,
Due to to the constant Schedule Changes I have gotten as confused as most of you. I confused some teams on Tuesday with other teams that needed changes, so I have fixed them and all should be where they need to be.
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
We need you all to remember that this is a league of the coaches....AND AS SUCH WE NEED YOU ALL THERE TO ADDRESS THESE PROBLEMS.

Hello All,

As you can see there are quite a few changes for this weekend. I'm sorry about them but they're due to PSAT's in the older age brackets. I've tried to move all those that will be affected but there may be more. If your team has PSAT's this Sat. let me know so we can see what we can do.

Hello All,
My fax machine experienced a massive paper jam on Sat and several scoresheets were unreadable or destroyed. If you see that your score is not posted I need you to resend the scoresheet or email me the scores.

Hello All,
Sorry about the new changes that came about last night. Because of the number of coaches coaching multiple teams some of these changes cannot be avoided. I do however ask that if there is a conflict that you contact me by the Tuesday before the play date so that all the coaches have time to adjust. Please go through the entire schedule now and let me know by 9/25/04 if there are anymore conflicts you will not be accomodated.

Thanks, Mariano

Hello Again,

As you can see by the Standings I have fixed it to reflect the changes that were implimented last year but my alzheimers made me forget. There will be no overtime played in APSL games. If the game is tied at the end of regulation it will stay a tie and each team awarded one point.
Sorry for the mistake,
Mariano

Hello All,

Hope all your games went well this past weekend, if not let me know so that we can fix the problems (I already know about the lines at gcu2 and have taken care of it).
A couple of things for you for the remainder of the season:
1. We had a couple of games where there were red cards issued and the ref kept the cards. In the Premier League all red cards should be handled after the game as outlined in the Bylaws and the red carded players pass left with the coach. We go on the honor system in this league and any coach violating this honor will be dealt with severely (as in kicked out of the league).
2. The red carded player has to sit out the NEXT ASPL GAME not necessarily the next game. An example is that a player was issued a red card on Sat. his team is playing in a tournament next sat. He can play in the tournament but must sit his next scheduled league game.
3. As you can see by the stat page I'm missing all D Girl score sheets and several others on both the boys and girls side (in defense of the d girls I did receive a scoresheet from Tucson on sat afternoon that was blank, as in sent backwards so if you sent yours from a construction company in Tucson resend it). Because of all the emails generated by coaches and parents wanting to know where they stand and why its not listed the following policy will be in effect: If the scoresheet is not received by the next scheduled lay date BOTH TEAMS WILL BE CREDITED WITH A LOSS and the loss for both teams will stand and not be changed. It is the winning coaches responsibility to get the scoresheet faxed in.
4. I have 3 scoresheets that don't have the goal scorers listed. I won't go through the emails and phone calls that I did last year from players and parents wanting to know why they're not listed on the goal scorers page and answering back that they need to talk to their coach. We will just go ahead and shut this feature down.

Ola All,
Well after 4 1/2 hours, lots of new white hair and 19 e-mails requesting changes I think I have the new schedule done. There were so many postponment requests due to rodeo weekend in Tucson, the Calcio Tournament and teams that can't play on Sunday's that the only thing that was possible is for us to do is to place a PP for that game. It will be the responsibility of each coach with the PP's to contact each other and arrange make-ups. All I ask is that you email me with the new times, dates and locations as well as whether you got ref's or need us to get them.
Except for the Tucson Fields none of the fields are set in stone as of today. We have been having difficulty contacting some people to verify that we can use the fields. To all the East Valley teams: Please talk to your parents and ask them to quit emailing and complaining about not having fields in the East Valley. They obviously don't know that the fields are controled by Tempe, Mesa and Chandler and we have tried and tried to get them to assign us fields but are being told that they are entered into agreements with the various clubs and that the fields are all assigned to them (having coached in the east valley and having a club based in Tempe I know this to be a fact). So if you're tired of driving then I suggest that all the parents of the Tempe Soccer Club, AZFC, and the Gilbert Soccer Club send thier emails to their respective clubs and ask them to allow us the use of a field or two just as the Sereno (sweetwater & crossed arrows) and Cisco (GCU Stadium & GCU 1) Clubs do. I do want to make a note and acknowledge Pat Jackson of AZFC for all the work he has been doing trying to get us a field in Tempe and if he is successful we will schedule some games there.
Thanks, Mariano

Hello All,
Welcome back and hopefully all went well for everyone during high school. A couple of things, All Tucson teams that will not have enough players during the rodeo weekend of the 28th and 29th need to email me as soon as possible so that we can reshcedule the games. I also understand that the Calcio tournament has several of our teams in it so I need to know who you are so that changes can be made.
The company I work for is shutting down operations on March 12th and between now and then I will be extremely busy and away from my office and computer most of the day. If you e-mail me and I don't get back to you don't panic, I just don't have the time to answer all the emails I've been getting.
Also I am working on getting fields in the East Valley for the weekend of the 28th & 29th. I also need to know if there are any other girls teams that can not play on Sunday's.
Thanks, Mariano

Hello all,
I have just been made aware of the fact that the 3rd Sunday in jan is Martin Luther King Holiday and that there are two tournaments that weekend that the majority of our coaches will be at. So that date is out and as soon as I can find another I will let you all know.
Mariano

12/9/03

Hello All and a Very Merry Christmas,
Due to the number of Coaches that have holiday plans and can't make the meeting this weekend and also due to the fact that Casa Grande has only 4 places that can accomodate a group as large as ours and they are all booked for this weekend we are postponing the meeting until the third Sunday in Jan. Hopefully this is enough notice for everyone to clear their calendar for that day.
Mariano

11/21/03

Ola All,
If you're wondering why the stats haven't been posted it's due to the fact that my computer has decided to take a vacation and for whatever reason won't let me open Excel files....Hopefully the IT people here can get it working soon.
Also due to the fact that several coaches will be at tournaments, ODP Training, and the lucky few that will be taking a much needed break, the Coaches Meeting has been moved from the 7th to the 14th (at least that's the plan, but we'll have to wait and see how many excuses we get for that date) in Casa Grande. I should have the exact location within the next week.

11/12/03

Hello All,
The schedule changes have gone from the ridiculous to the absolute ludicrous. Effective today the policy of the league will be as follows:
1. The schedule will be posted no later than 5 PM on Tuesday. Any team that has not sent in the scoresheet form the previous Sat will be credited with a loss for both teams. This getting scoresheets on Thursday and Friday is getting real old.
2. There will no longer be any schedule changes for conflicts involving coaches that coach 2 or more teams. Effective immediately it will be the responsibility of the coach with a conflict to contact the opposing coach and reschedule the game. This rescheduling will be allowed under the following conditions; 1) The opposing coach agrees 2) The coach requesting the reschedule must contact the referee assignor and tell him the game is being rescheduled. If the rescheduling will create a hole in the schedule then the team requesting the change will be responsible for the referee fees for that game (no referee likes to sit around doing nothing for 2 hours between games). 3) The game must be scheduled for sometime the during the next week at a field you have found with referees you have gotten.
3. No Tucson teams will be scheduled to play on the 22nd due to their High School Season starting on that date.
4. There will be a MANDATORY COACHES MEETING on Sunday December 7th. It will be held in Casa Grande (Actual Location to be sent within the next week). This is being done on a Sunday so as not to conflict with any of the High School Coaches. It is being done in Casa Grande to ensure that all the Tucson coaches will be in attendance. Any coach failing to come to this meeting will be removed from the schedule and the BOD will determine what to do with the future status of the team. This is giving everyone enough notice so that you can make arrangements to attend.
Mariano
P.S. I have been receiving an average of 10 emails a day from parents and coaches about the standings and stats. Beginning this week I will reply to the email with the coaches name, phone number and email address that have not sent in their scoresheets so that they can see what it feels like to get that many emails a day.

Hello All, The schedule and bracketing has been completed except for the relegation/promotion game in tucson. Hopefully both teams will be able to figure out where they belong as I have not received any info on that game and am leaving town even as I type.
There will be no appeals or changes to the bracketing. I know that there are some conflicts and will try to fix them on Monday when I get back.
Thanks, Mariano

Clarification on Promotion/Relegation games. Any team that arranges for a promotion/relegation game and receives no response from the opposing coach or representative will be moved up and the team ignoring the game will be relegated.

We have several teams that have arranged for games with fields and officials and are not getting any response from the opposing coach. We assume that this is being done so the game is not played and both teams stay where they are. Therefore the above policy has been initiated. It is the responsibility of both coaches to make sure the game is played.
Mariano

Hello All,

Sorry this has taken so long but some coaches felt it was OK to wait until Friday to send me last Saturday's scoresheets. Anyway the teams that are to be promoted are:TSA U17 Boys from B to A; Cisco Potros from C to B; Calcio Fiorentina from D to C. The teams being demoted are 86 Sereno Boy's Blue from A to B; 89 Golden Eagle Boys from B to C; Gilbert Arsenal Boys from C to D.
The following teams must arrange for and play a game between Monday 10/27 and Thur 10/30 to determine relegation and promotion: U17 Classic Storm vs 88 Sereno Boys Whi; TSA U16 Boys vs TSA U15 Boys; 90 Sereno Boys Whi vs TSA 90 Boys.
Any Younger team that does not which to be moved up must let me know by Wed 10/19. Any relegation/promotion game that is not played will leave both teams in their respective divisions.
Thanks, Mariano

Hello everyone..I need all coaches to check the bylaws concerning coaches sendoffs. Per the bylaws any coach that is sent off MUST SIT the next two scheduled games for that team. The coach is not even allowed to be at the field where his team is playing. Also be sure that your asst. or manager has the referee verify that the head coach is not present and note it on the scoresheet.

Second thing....I have received several notations on the scoresheets from referees about the foul language being displayed by players and parents on the sideline. Please review the bylaws, we have a zero tolerance policy for foul language. The referee assignor has been instructed to make all referees aware of this and to follow the bylaw as written.
The boy's divisions are almost at an end and I am still missing some scoresheets. Check the schedule and see which they are.
I have also received several questions about relegation and demotion. There WILL BE relegation and promotion. The 5th place and 2nd place games will be played during the week between the phases.
Thanks, Mariano
